Comixology e Amazon lanciano il print-on-demand

L’iniziativa riguarderà i titoli creator-owned Comixology Originals.

Nella tarda serata di ieri Comixology e Amazon hanno ufficializzato che i titoli creator-owned pubblicati sotto l’egida dell’etichetta Comixology Originals saranno disponibili gratuitamente per gli abbonati Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, comiXology Unlimited e disponibili all’acquisto su Kindle and comiXology.

Tuttavia la parte più interessante dell’annuncio è legata al lancio di un programma di “print-on-demand”: ogni utente potrà infatti “prenotare” una copia cartacea della serie che preferisce che verrà quindi stampata e recapitata a casa direttamente tramite Amazon.

Comixology e Amazon, che nel frattempo aveva già annunciato una programma di ebook gratuiti per gli abbonati Prime, promette di cambiare drasticamente il volto del mercato qualora questa iniziativa dovesse dare i frutti sperati sia per gli autori e per il mercato creator-owned che per i rivenditori che non dovrebbero più preoccuparsi di materiale invenduto né di “fare magazzino” ma soprattutto di arretrati o esauriti.

Il CEO di Comixology,  David Steinberger, ha inoltre rimarcato come la prima fase di questa iniziativa sarà estremamente sperimentale dando l’opportunità sia ai rivenditori che ai lettori di variare la propria offerta/domanda. L’obbiettivo è, ovviamente, quello di portare nuovi lettori sia nel mercato digitale che in quello tradizionale.
